The Sales and Business Growth Corner
The 3Ms That Matter Most When Trying to Grow
Growing your business or client base can be hard, especially when things are constantly changing.
The economy can be slowing down or entering into a recession, new competitors may be entering the market with a lower cost base and trying to steal your market. Lots can be happening.
That said, there are always companies in every industry who are growing while everyone else is shringing or stagnating no matter what forces are at play in that market.
What's their secret?
It's that they've figured out the 3Ms that drive massive growth, profitably.
So what are these 3Ms?
They are:
Market
Message
Media
Let's take a look at each of these in turn.
Market: This is the the most critical piece and the place to start. You need to have a deep understanding of WHO you are selling to.
You need to go beyond the simple demographics and understand their psycho-graphics - what are their frustrations, challenges, deepest desires?
What do they go to bed worrying about (related to what you can solve for) and what do they wake up thinking about?
Once you know this, you need to figure out where to find them and being able to get there - that's all part of getting the Market piece right.
Message: This is where you put together messaging that hits the bulls eye on the biggest priorities/challenges/opportunities of the people in your target market.
With the right message, you can grab their attention (something that's harder and harder to do with all the distractions surrounding us these days) for long enough for them to consider responding to and engaging with you.
If you can do that, then you will have achieved message-to-market match which is critical for success.
Media: This is all about getting in front of the right people in your target market in the right way. To do that you need to consider what channels/media methods will work best.
This could mean social media, email, texting or direct mail.
Everybody seems to have their own preferred way of receiving information and since you won't know ahead of time what works for each person, it's best to try a variety of different media/modes to get in front of those in your target market.
And there you have it! So the next time you're feeling stuck when trying to grow, think about the 3Ms and ensuring you have the right combination to the market-message-media combo lock to open up massive growth for you and your company that leaves your competitors in the dust!
If you're struggling with this and want to bounce around some ideas, just reply to this message and I'll be happy to set up a time for a quick chat to help you get unstuck.
Maximizing Your Mental Performance
Why it's Important to Focus on the Process not the Product - A Neuroscience Perspective
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to become fixated on the end result, get overwhelmed and just give up because it feels too daunting. However, neuroscience suggests that focusing on the process rather than the product can lead to better progress and ultimate success. Here's why:
1. Enhanced Learning and Memory
When we concentrate on the process, we engage in deeper learning.
The brain's hippocampus, which is crucial for forming new memories, is more active when we are fully immersed in the task at hand. This leads to better retention and understanding of the material.
2. Increased Motivation and Enjoyment
The brain's reward system, particularly the release of dopamine, is activated not just by achieving goals but also by making progress towards them.
By focusing on the process, we experience more frequent dopamine releases, which keeps us motivated and makes the journey more enjoyable.
This makes it easier (and possibly even more fun) to stick with it and ultimately get the job done
3. Reduced Stress and Anxiety
Fixating on the end product can create pressure and anxiety, activating the brain's amygdala, which is responsible for the fight-or-flight response.
A process-oriented mindset, however, promotes a state of flow, where the prefrontal cortex is engaged, leading to a calm and focused state.
4. Improved Problem-Solving Skills
When we focus on the process, we are more likely to engage in creative thinking and problem-solving. T
The brain's Default Mode Network (DMN), which is associated with creativity and insight, is more active when we are not solely fixated on the outcome.
5. Greater Resilience and Adaptability
A process-oriented approach helps build resilience.
The brain's neuroplasticity, or its ability to adapt and change, is enhanced when we embrace challenges and learn from them. This makes us more adaptable and better equipped to handle future obstacles.
So, focusing on the process rather than the product is not just a motivational mantra, it's backed by neuroscience.
By engaging deeply in the task at hand, we enhance our learning, stay motivated, reduce stress, improve problem-solving skills, and build resilience.
So next time you embark on a project, remember to enjoy the journey and trust that the results will follow.

Side-note: This kind of stuff has always fascinated me so I'm working on a NEW project to help people improve their mental performance by unlocking the mysteries of how our brains work, and how to keep our brains healthy and effective so we can keep performing at high levels for as long as possible.
